SMMC and NCH kick out Trans-Fats!

March 8, 2007

Today St. Mary's Medical Center and Nicklaus Children's Hospital announced that their hospitals are trans-fat free.

On March 9 employees and members of the media are invited to a "Trans Fat-Free" Feast where they can sample tasty items like chocolate chip cookies and chicken fingers and such delicacies as beignets (a French pastry) and fresh fish and chips--all prepared without trans fats.

The SMMC and NCH kitchen has gone totally trans fat-free because eliminating trans fat has been proven to help reduce the risk of heart disease, diabetes and inflammation. The tasting event is designed to demonstrate that foods with NO trans fats can still be just as declicious.

The "Trans Fat-Free" Feast will last from 10 a.m. to noon at the St. Mary's Medical Center and Nicklaus Children's Hospital Cafeteria, located at 901 45th Street in West Palm Beach, Fla.
