   Children's Cancer Services

The Right Place.   When a child is diagnosed with cancer, the first priority is finding the right place for care. A place that offers today's advanced treatments for young cancer patients; a place designed to meet the emotional needs of children and their parents; a place designed to meet the emotional needs of children and their families, as well as the medical ones.

The Children's Hospital at St. Mary's Medical Center has earned local and regional respect for its treatment and care of children, adolescents and young adults with cancer and non-malignant blood diseases, such as hemophilia and sickle cell anemia. Our pediatric cancer program provides support, understanding and encouragement, along with the most advanced cancer care available. The center is the only dedicated pediatric cancer center in Palm Beach, Martin, Indian River, St. Lucie and Okeechobee counties, and Quantum House, a home away from home for families of pediatric patients.

Our multidisciplinary team includes medical and surgical experts, specially trained nurses and psychosocial support personnel, as well as experienced consultants in pathology, diagnostic radiology, radiation therapy and all pediatric subspecialties. We are committed to giving personalized, family centered care in a nurturing environment.

Areas of Expertise   The Children's Hospital at St. Mary’s Medical Center is one of the select hospitals in the nation accepted into the Children’s Oncology Group, a co-op group supported by the National Cancer Institute to perform clinical trials. Our team of health professionals trained specifically in pediatric oncology, give the youngest cancer patients access to new treatment options.

You are in very good hands.   Our pediatric cancer program offers a full range of medical, surgical, nursing and support services required for the optimal care of children and adolescents with cancer and blood diseases. Our team of pediatric oncologists, hematologists and is nationally recognized for the diagnosis, treatment and research in childhood leukemias, solid tumors, hemophilia and other bleeding disorders, hemoglobinopathies, bone marrow failure states, immune deficiencies and certain genetic disorders.  The Children's Hospital houses numerous programs organized to help coordinate the multiple specialists and services required for optimal diagnosis and treatment of these illnesses.

Going Beyond Medicine   Every aspect of our service is tailored to kids, teens and young adults and their unique clinical and emotional needs.  At the Children’s Hospital at St. Mary's Medical Center, healing goes well beyond medicine. We do whatever it takes to make kids physically and emotionally comfortable, so they can heal faster and get home sooner. From our red wagons and teen lounges to our specially sized furniture and medical equipment, everything we do is specifically tailored to the needs of kids.
