Martin Thompson joins St. Mary's as Director of the Institute for Mental Health 
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - (January 5, 2008) – St. Mary’s Medical Center has announced that Martin Thompson has joined St. Mary’s Medical Center as the Director of the Institute for Mental Health.

Martin is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (NJ) and has over 20 years experience in the Behavioral Health field.  He received his BA in psychology from Middlesex Polytechnic in 1982 and his postgraduate qualification in social work from the University of Surrey in 1986.   He has since held a variety of leadership positions in Behavioral Health with specialized experience in running residential programs for patients with mental illness and substance dependence.  Martin was a clinician supervisor for residential programs for the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey and most recently, he was a program manager for inpatient and outpatient substance abuse program for Kennedy Health System in Cherry Hill New Jersey.

Martin’s role at St. Mary’s will be crucial to physician, patient and employee satisfaction.  He will be responsible for the clinical and administrative operation of the IMH team and he will work toward developing new outpatient programs.    

Martin has relocated with his wife Catherine and they are expecting their first child in June of 2009.   Martin is an avid runner and is also a certified teacher of Tai Chi and Qigong.
