WEST PALM BEACH, FL (October 22, 2009) -- In honor of Fire Prevention Month, St. Mary’s Medical Center once again sponsored the Annual West Palm Beach Chamber of Commerce Firefighters Breakfast on October 22, 2009.
"We owe a great deal to the men and women who have pursued a career in emergency medical services,” said St. Mary’s CEO, Davide Carbone. “As first responders, they know their lives – and others – may be on the line when they report for work, and for this we are honoring their courage and dedication."
A highlight of the breakfast event, Mayor Lois Frankel announced that Lt. Nate Lasseur is this year’s West Palm Beach Fire Rescue Firefighter of the Year. He is a firefighter/paramedic at Station 3 located on Broadway. State Senator Dave Aronberg also announced that the Palm Beach County Fire Rescue Award went to Captain Doug McGlynn, with Battalion 9, serving unincorporated parts of Wellington and Royal Palm Beach.
Introduced by Carbone, David Petruska, MD., St. Mary’s Neurosurgeon, was a featured speaker at the event. Dr. Petruska spoke about the hospital’s Neuroscience Center, as well as medical team additions and other future plans.
In addition to Dr. Petruska’s presentation, Carbone discussed many exciting additions at St. Mary’s such as the Paley Advanced Limb Lengthening Institute at the Joint Preservation and Bone Reconstruction Center, the Pediatric Open Heart Surgery Program/Pediatric Cardiac Catheterization Program approval, a new Partnership with the University of Vermont College of Medicine and the constant progression of the hospital’s Neuroscience Center.
