Accreditation Joint Commission standards address the organization’s level of performance in key functional areas, such as patient rights, patient treatment, and infection control. The standards focus not simply on an organization’s ability to provide safe, high quality care, but on its actual performance as well. Standards set forth performance expectations for activities that affect the safety and quality of patient care.
Accreditation Regional Perinatal Intensive Care Center. The ultimate goal of the Regional Perinatal Intensive Care Centers Program is to improve the outcome of pregnancy and the quality of life from birth. Since the inception of this program, Florida's neonatal mortality rate has been reduced from 13.6 deaths per 1,000 live births in 1974, to 4.9 deaths per 1,000 live births in 1999. Morbidity rates, or the quality of the survivors, have also improved. Florida has a model Regional Perinatal Intensive Care Centers Program. The provision of these perinatal intensive care services has had, and continues to have, a beneficial impact on the quality of life for the residents of Florida.
