Minimally Invasive Surgery
St. Mary’s has recently been designated a GE Showsite in Interventional Radiology. The two GE Innova 3131 Interventional Suites allow specially-trained physicians to perform a variety of minimally invasive procedures. This advanced X-ray imaging system enables doctors to see extremely detailed, real-time images of patient anatomy during procedures that require exact precision – such as stent placement, blood vessel interventions and the minimally-invasive treatment of uterine fibroids.
St. Mary’s also has two integrated laparoscopic OR suites that are fully equipped with built-in cameras, video monitors and are fully compatible with PACS imaging technology. In addition, a Storz representative is available 24/7 to troubleshoot or for additional assistance.
Uterine Fibroid Ablation
At St. Mary’s, patients who require a uterine fibroid ablation procedure will have it performed by a specially trained interventional radiologist. A guided catheter is used to inject tiny particles into the artery supplying blood to the fibroid tumor. This cuts off the blood flow to the tumor causing it to shrink. After a one-night stay, women usually return to a majority of their normal activities within one week.
Comprehensive Stroke Center
The St. Mary’s Comprehensive Stroke Center is equipped to meet the needs of hemorrhagic (bleed) or ischemic (clot) stroke patients and can also treat ischemic stroke within eight hours after symptom onset.
The two GE Innova 3131 Interventional Suites are equipped to perform life-saving minimally-invasive procedures to remove blood clots. Recent advances in imaging, like the Innova 3131, enables the highly trained physicians at St. Mary’s Medical Center to treat blocked arteries of the brain by removing, breakingup, or even sucking out the blood clot.
Breast Biopsy
St. Mary’s now offers the GE 3T MR 750W. With the latest 32 channel GEM Suite, patients can expect a more comfortable exam with open, flexible coils that naturally follow the contours of the human body. These flexible coils make for a relaxed scan experience. By providing a closer fit of the coil elements to the patient, more detailed images will be generated, instilling a higher level of confidence by the physician.
