Delray Medical Center & St. Mary’s Medical Center Receive Additional Comprehensive Stroke Center Certifications

Aug 28, 2020

The Palm Beach Health Network is the only hospital system with two comprehensive stroke centers in Palm Beach County to receive this certification

Palm Beach County, Fla. – Delray Medical Center and St. Mary’s Medical Center, part of the Palm Beach Health Network, are now certified from an additional agency for its comprehensive stroke programs.  DNV GL-Healthcare awarded the new certification to both Delray Medical Center and St. Mary’s Medical Center for their comprehensive stroke care, a prestigious designation reflecting the highest level of competence for treatment of patients who have experienced a stroke.  The Palm Beach Health Network is the only hospital system in Palm Beach County with two comprehensive stroke centers, and both are designated with this certification.

“This recognition is confirmation that Delray Medical Center and St. Mary’s Medical Center continues to provide the highest quality stroke care in Palm Beach County, and we are encouraging the community to know the stroke warning signs, and to seek treatment immediately instead of delaying care,” said Maggie Gill, chief executive officer of the Palm Beach Health Network and Delray Medical Center. “Our hospitals are safe, and we are ready to care for patients suffering from strokes, and who have other chronic and new illnesses that require immediate medical attention.”

The DNV GL - Healthcare Comprehensive Stroke Center Certification is based on standards set forth by the Brain Attack Coalition and the American Stroke Association, and affirm that Delray Medical Center and St. Mary’s Medical Center address the full spectrum of stroke care - diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation and education - and establishes clear metrics to evaluate outcomes.

“Both Delray and St. Mary’s Medical Centers have thoroughly demonstrated a high-level of care for patients experiencing a potentially life-altering stroke,” said Cynthia McCauley, chief executive officer for St. Mary’s Medical Center & the Palm Beach Children’s Hospital.  “We are excited to receive these recognitions honoring our teams for the work they do to serve the healthcare needs in the communities we serve.”

Comprehensive stroke centers are known to be the largest and best-equipped hospitals in a given geographical area, and are designed to treat any kind of stroke or stroke complication. A stroke center certification determines which facility a patient is taken to for the most appropriate care when a stroke occurs.  Both hospitals are part of the Advanced Neuroscience Network (ANN).
