St. Mary’s Medical Center Honors Chief of Surgery

West Palm Beach, Fla. (July 5, 2016) — St. Mary’s Medical Center and the Palm Beach Children’s Hospital are pleased to recognize Dr. Richard Kaplan, oral and maxillofacial surgeon and chairman of the department of surgery, as the 2016 Chief of Staff Award recipient. Presented by Dr. Thomas Saylor, chief of staff, Dr. Kaplan was honored for his outstanding leadership and significant contributions to the hospitals, patients and medical staff.

“It is physicians like Dr. Kaplan who make our community such a special place to live and work,” said Gabrielle Finley-Hazle, CEO of St. Mary’s and the Palm Beach Children’s Hospital. “He has impacted thousands of lives, and on behalf of our staff, I would like to thank him for his unwavering dedication to caring for our patients. Dr. Kaplan is an inspiration to all of us, and we are proud to call him our colleague and friend.”

As an oral and maxillofacial surgeon, Dr. Kaplan’s work involves restoring the facial features of trauma survivors saved by St. Mary’s Level I Trauma Center. He has also served as the chairman of the hospital’s surgical department for the past five years and was previously the chairman of the Surgical Peer Review Committee.

Dr. Kaplan is board certified by the American Board of Maxillofacial Surgery and has degrees from the University of Witwatersrand (DDS) in Johannesburg, South Africa and from the University of Miami (MD).
