Tenet Healthcare’s Florida Hospitals Celebrate National Doctors’ Day

Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach Counties, Fla. (March 30, 2015) – In recognition of National Doctors’ Day on March 30, affiliated physicians of Tenet’s 10 Florida hospitals will be honored for their service, skills and compassion.
The outstanding group of physicians will have the opportunity to participate in various events and activities, including special awards ceremonies, at Coral Gables Hospital, Delray Medical Center, Florida Medical Center, a campus of North Shore, Good Samaritan Medical Center, Hialeah Hospital, North Shore Medical Center, Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center, Palmetto General Hospital, St. Mary’s Medical Center and West Boca Medical Center.
“Not only do our physicians provide preventive care and disease management, they also serve as educators, researchers and advocates for positive habits and healthy lifestyles,” said Marsha Powers, CEO of Tenet Healthcare’s Florida region. “Although we value the opportunity to show our appreciation for our physicians each year on Doctors’ Day, we want them to know we are grateful for their dedication and sacrifice year-round.”
National Doctors' Day is held every year on March 30 in the United States to celebrate the contributions of physicians. Although President George Bush officially signed Doctors’ Day into U.S. law on October 30, 1990, the first observance was March 30, 1933 in Winder, Georgia. The holiday was conceived by Eudora Brown Almond, wife of Dr. Charles B. Almond, who decided to set aside a day to honor physicians like her husband. March 30 was chosen because it is the anniversary of the day that general anesthesia was first used in surgery by Dr. Crawford W. Long in 1842.
