Inpatient Brain Injury Specialty Care

Often, brain injuries come suddenly, but treatment of mild or severe brain trauma can last weeks, months or even years. That’s why the Brain Injury Specialty Care Center at St. Mary’s Medical Center does more than provide acute inpatient rehabilitation services. It offers a caring touch, too. With advanced treatments and technologies, our highly specialized and experienced health care team works closely to coordinate each patient’s care. It’s our mission to help patients reach their highest potential.

A Comprehensive Approach

Our specially-trained team is led by a physiatrist who is board-certified in physical medicine and rehabilitation, and brain injury medicine. Providing specialized care to treat the medical, physical, cognitive and emotional needs of a life-altering brain injury, our rehabilitation team is dedicated to helping patients and their families recover in a warm—but fully responsive—environment. A hospital-based unit, our Brain Injury Specialty Care Center offers immediate access to hospital physicians and services.

Our rehab center offers:

  • Secured 8-bed unit
  • Dedicated therapy gym with advanced technologies—ZeroG gait and balance system, Dynavision and NuStep
  • Rehabilitation nursing with a low nurse-to-patient ratio
  • Physical, occupational and speech therapy
  • Therapeutic recreation
  • Neuropsychology
  • Support groups and resources for continued recovery
  • Education for patients, families and caregivers
